Celebrating Job Goals

Keep Four Important Things In Mind When Deciding Your Goals

Congratulations if you’ve adopted the fantastic practice of establishing goals for yourself—but a new issue can frequently arise when we choose too many goals. Here’s how to sort through the stars and figure out which ones are worth pursuing.

1. Consider the broadest possible picture. Take some time to ponder, journal, and explore who you are as a person and what is important to you. Make a list of the ten most significant values in your life. After you’ve done that, consider what you want in life more than anything else and put it down.

Keep it brief, sweet, and to the point—no more than one sentence. You’ll be surprised at how having a clear vision of the broad picture may help you sort through your goals and identify the ones that matter.

2. Consider your budget and make appropriate compromises. When it comes to goal-setting, it’s critical to consider your restrictions and be realistic. It’s impossible to save a million dollars in a year if you’re working a nine-to-five job with a median pay (probably).

Drop that ambition or put it on hold for the time being, and instead focus on something more realistic, such as putting aside a few thousand dollars. Money isn’t the only consideration; time and physical limits must also be considered… This leads us to the next point.

3. Consider your health. If you have a work-related goal in mind—say, to make six figures or something similar—and your doctor has advised you that your health is in jeopardy, it may be time to put your financial objectives aside and focus on your health.

Taking a thirty-minute stroll every day may be more vital than cramming in a few extra hours of work each week. If you don’t choose the first goal, you may find yourself in a situation where neither aim can be achieved.

4. Keep in mind those who are close to you. If you have other people that rely on you, such as family or coworkers, you may need to sacrifice some of your personal ambitions in order to meet their requirements.

For example, if you’re a mom with multiple children and want to earn a black belt in Tae Kwon Do but your children are suffering in school, you could put your desire to be Jackie Chan aside and spend some time each day helping them with their homework.
