Taylor Swift’s Folklore has become the first album release to sell one million units in the US this year. The July release is Swift’s eighth studio album and second for Republic Records.  Folklore has been a commercial and straightaway critical success.

Jack Antonoff of Fun, and Aaron Dessner of The National, produced the album, which Swift wrote and recorded during the quarantine. Its genre-mixing, sixteen tracks range from indie-folk, alternative rock, electro-folk, and chamber pop genres.

Surpassed Whitney Houston in the Billboard 200

The album returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an eighth non-consecutive week, giving the singer a career total of 47 weeks ruling the chart. With this, Swift surpassed Whitney Houston’s 46 weeks for the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 in the Billboard 200 by a woman.

Reached 80.6 Million Streams on Spotify the First Day

According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, the album reached 80.6 million streams on Spotify the first day. Apple Music recorded 35.47 million streams day-one. Obviously, repeat listeners are responsible for a good part of the streams.

And the Awards Keep Comin’

Swift is up for three People’s Choice Awards, one being Female Artist of 2020. Folklore is up for Best Album of 2020 and “Only The Young,” from Miss Americana, is up for Soundtrack Song of 2020.

It’s notable that Taylor Swift’s previous album, Lover, was the only one to sell a million copies in 2019. She just keeps on ringing them up.

It's good to share!
